Begin with several days at a luxury beach resort in Jimbaran Bay. Enjoy flexible touring with a private guide and driver, including temples such as Tanah Lot and Ulun Danu Temple, time to browse upscale boutiques in Seminyak, and other highlights such as a visit to a local turtle conservation center. One evening, attend a Kecak dance performance at the cliffside temple of Uluwatu Temple. There will also be ample time for you to enjoy the resort's spa, beach, yoga, water activities and fine dining.

 

Continue inland to Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali. With your private guide and driver, tour the region according to your interests: visit local artisan villages and the workshops of noted artists and craftsmen; peruse a local outdoor food market; visit the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary; explore Ubud’s most interesting museums and art galleries; tour Balinese water palaces and important temples such as Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave) and Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu; meet with a Balinese healer or spiritual leader; attend local festivals; or venture into the highlands to Pura Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, Kintamani and villages along the slopes of Mount Batur. Also spend a day touring eastern Bali, the island’s most traditional region, visiting revered temples, royal palaces, and Balinese villages known for their high-quality weavings and traditional architecture. One evening, attend a Balinese dance performance at Ubud’s royal palace. Upon request, Artisans of Leisure can arrange additional activities, such as river rafting, mountain biking and cooking classes. During free time, enjoy the town’s many cafes and boutiques, and take advantage of your private plunge pool and the resort’s spa.

 

Next, travel to the island of Lombok. With a private guide and driver, explore the interior of this fascinating island. Visit deeply traditional rural villages known for their crafts (including pottery, weavings and basketry), see lush terraced rice paddies, a volcano, and beautiful waterfalls. Also enjoy free time at the seaside resort, and optional water activities (including great snorkeling and diving).

 

Continue by air to the neighboring island of Java, to Yogyakarta, a university town renowned for its traditional arts, whitewashed villages, and proximity to Borobudur, the largest Buddhist monument in the world. Stay at the Amanjiwo, a favorite Aman resort, with views of Borobudur. With a private guide, explore nearby temples and royal palaces, visit galleries selling paintings by local artists, and enjoy optional activities such as an elephant through the nearby hills or a day meeting local artists in their galleries.

Day 1: Welcome to Denpasar (Bali) – Jimbaran (Bali)

Fly to Denpasar (Bali), INDONESIA

 

Welcome to Bali. Upon arrival in Denpasar Airport, obtain your Indonesia visa (please refer to your Special Program Note), and then clear Immigration and Customs.  After collecting your baggage, exit the airport to meet outside a local Guide of Global Travel & Tours. He/she will be holding a sign with your names on it. Please note that local guides are not allowed inside the airport.

 

From the airport, you will be privately transferred to your lovely Beach Resort. Located on Bali's west coast between Kuta and Nusa Dua, Jimbaran offers a small-secluded beach area, where tranquility is the perfect antidote to a stressful world. Jimbaran is home to a number of grilled seafood restaurants, packed together all in a row along two stretches of beach. Settle in and enjoy the afternoon and evening at your leisure.

Day 2: Jimbaran

Enjoy time at leisure to explore at your own pace, or relax at your hotel.

 

Enjoy a sunset outing to the southwestern tip of Bali for a visit of the Uluwatu Temple, which is perched precipitous on top sheer cliffs that drop straight into the pounding surf, 250 feet above the sea. This is one of the temples in Bali built in the 11th century. Watch the spectacular sunset overlooking the Indian Ocean and enjoy the mystic atmosphere. Your evening will be lighted up with a dinner under the stars at one of Jimbaran Beach Restaurant.

 

Day 3: Jimbaran (Bali)

Full Day Snorkel & Dive: Seven world-class dive sites lie off the Coast of Menjangan Island, a short boat ride from the main island. This island has one of the most spectacular coral reefs in Bali. At the local dive, you can find magnificent coral gardens and dramatic reef walls which are home to a vast range of marine life, such as sea fans, pygmy seahorses and vivid gorgonians to schools of snapper and reef sharks. Visibility is normally excellent, ranging from between 15 and 50 meters. The Menjangan’s dive base offers a comprehensive selection of wetsuits, masks, diving equipment and all other gear necessary to explore beneath the waves.

 

Day 4: Jimbaran (Bali) to Ubud (Bali)

Road journey from Jimbaran to Ubud: Today, you’ll be driven through small villages and incredible landscapes, stopping for pictures and with your guide who will explain the islands’ culture, flora and fauna. You’ll arrive at Bali’s most famous sight, the sea temple of Tanah Lot. Located on a barren volcanic rock in the ocean, the temple is sometimes pounded by huge waves: a magical setting. Next, you’ll continue to Beratan Lake, a volcanic lake that is surrounded by spectacular views. You can visit the famous Ulun Danu Temple which sits on a small island on the far shores of the lake. Next you’ll explore the colorful market of Candikuning before enjoying lunch at Bamboo Forest Restaurant, a fabulous restaurant located the middle of a tranquil rainforest on the slopes of Batukaru Mountain. Then transfer to your luxury resort.

 

Settle in and enjoy the afternoon and evening at your leisure.

Day 5: Ubud (Bali)

Half day Whitewater Rafting: Flowing through unspoiled tropical rainforests, deep gorges, and some far distant paddy fields, the Ayung River’s class II and III rapids gives you a chance to experience true white water adventure. Before departure there is a comprehensive safety briefing and guests are fitted with life jackets, safety helmets, and a paddle. Enjoy the thrill of the rapids, the beauty of the scenery and observe rural Balinese people in their day-to-day life along the riverbanks. This shared activity is safe and lots of fun for all ages with two daily departures. Lunch buffet will be served in the terraced river café at the end of the trip. Return back to your hotel and enjoy the remainder of day free at leisure to relax.

 

Day 6: Ubud (Bali)

Full private guide tour: We will first stop at a morning traditional market, where you can see how the Balinese shop for their daily needs. Next, you’ll visit the UNESCO Heritage listed, Taman Ayun temple, built in 1634 to serve as the Royal family temple of the Mengwi dynasty. The temple is a truly stunning piece of historic architecture, surrounded by a moat with multiroofed meru shrines and intricately carved wooden gates, and drive to Jatiluwih. We are joining a pleasant walk to discover the beautiful terrace rice fields of Jatiluwih, a UNESCO world heritage site. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant nearby.

 

After lunch, you’ll visit the famous Tirta Empul Holy Water Temple located in Tampaksiring. At this temple you can observe the Balinese bathing in series of holy water fountains. Driving down, arrive in the bottom of a lush green valley where the Gunung Kawi temple, Bali's largest ancient monument is located. It consists of 10 rock-cut shrine memorials standing 7 meters high in sheltered niches cut into the sheer cliff face. End the tour with a stop at Goa Gajah before returning to your hotel.

 

Day 7: Ubud (Bali) to Lombok

Road journey from Ubud to Padang Bay: After breakfast this morning your guide and driver will meet you for the drive to the boat terminal at Padang Bay Harbor.

 

Gilicat journey from Bali to Lombok: Join the Gilicat speedboat for the 90 minute journey to north Lombok.

 

Private transfer to Senggigi: Upon arrival on Lombok you will be met by your guide and driver and transferred to your hotel in Senggigi, a journey of around 45 minutes.

 

Settle in and enjoy the afternoon and evening at your leisure.

The highlight of this tour is the deserted island of Gili Nanggu, with its beautiful beaches and clear turquoise water. On the way you will have the opportunity to view the daily life of the local Sasak people. Visit the morning market at Kediri and stop at the village of Banyumulek to see the Sasak women producing earthenware pottery, as they have done for generations. Continue on to sacred Mt. Pengsong and the Hindu temple, which is inhabited by hundreds of holy monkeys. Sail from Lembar by a traditional motorized outrigger for the 30 minute trip to Gili Nanggu. When you arrive there will be time to relax and swim on this pristine island. Lunch will be provided.

 

Day 10:  Lombok

Today, you’ll visit the village of Tetebatu and Loyok, popularly known as a peaceful and tranquil village. You will do some soft trekking to the local forest inhabited by the wild black monkeys (pitu), mahogony trees, and clove plantations while enjoying the simple and natural way of life of the locals. You will also visit Lingsar temple, which symbolizes the harmony of Muslim and Hindu and Taman Narmada, a kingly garden which is also the replica of Lake Segara Anak in Mount Rinjani. Lunch will be provided along the way.

 

Day 11: Lombok - Yogyakarta

After leisurely morning, you will be transferred to the Yogyakarta airport in time for your flight to Yogyakarta.

From the airport, you will be privately transferred to your lovely boutique hotel. Amanjiwo, enveloped by the rainforest of central Java, is set within a natural amphitheatre where the Menoreh Hills rise up nearby and the farmlands of the Kedu Plain spread below steep volcanoes on the horizon. Yogyakarta is the most popular destination amongst tourists on Java, largely owing to its close proximity to the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan. The city is full of tradition with countless hotels, restaurants and entertainment to keep visitors occupied. Its relatively small size is easy to navigate on foot, or on a traditional becak that can be found in most areas. Yogyakarta has a great history with many heritage buildings and monuments still standing. One of the finest attractions remains the impressive Sultan’s palace a grand complex designed to reflect Javanese traditions. Settle in and enjoy the afternoon and evening at your leisure.

Day 12: Yogyakarta

Morning Yogyakarta city tour: This morning you will be taken on a tour to explore the cultural highlights of Yogyakarta. Start with a visit to the Kraton Sultan Palace walking over the remains of the past centuries, enabling you to understand the history of this artistic city. It was built in 1970 by Sri Sultan Hamengkubowono I., which is also a model of traditional Javanese palace architecture and it lies in the center of the municipality. Up to now, Kraton still serves as the Sultan Palace. Over 25,000 people live within the greater Kraton compound named Taman Sari, which consist of its own market, shops, batik, and silver cottage industries, schools, and mosques. You’ll also get to do a tour to the Water Castle. Afterwards, continue to Kota Gede which has been famed as the hub of Yogyakarta’s silver industry since the 1930’s. But this quite old town, which is now a suburb of Yogyakarta, was the first capital of the Mataram Kingdom, found by Panembahan Senopati in 1582. You will visit the busy silver workshops to watch the process.

 

Afternoon tour of Borobudur: This afternoon head north out of Yogyakarta for Borobudur, a journey of around 1.5 hours. Indonesia's largest and most impressive Buddhist monument, Borobudur. Looming out of a patchwork of bottle-green paddies and swaying palm tops, this colossal Buddhist relic is one of the continent's marvels. Built around 800 A.D. after the decline of Buddhism and the shift of power to East Java, the monument was abandoned soon after its completion. For centuries the complex lay forgotten, buried under layers of volcanic ash. Climb up to the top and enjoy a wonderful view on the Menoreh mountains. Enough time is given to stroll around the complex and to discover its beauty. Afterwards, continue to visit the nearby temples such as Pawon and Mendut Temple. 

 

Day 13: Yogyakarta

Morning tour of Prambanan: This morning you will be taken on a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Prambanan Temple. The Hindu temple complex was erected in the 9th century while Java was ruled by the Hindu Sanjayas Old Mataram in the north. The complex consists of 3 major temples/shrines such as Candi Shiva Mahadeva, Candi Brahma, and Candi Vishnu. Enough time will be given to walk around and observe the beautiful carvings and the neighborhood shrines such as the Candi Palosan and the Candi Sewu. The Ramayana story is carved into the walls of the temples. 

 

This afternoon is at your leisure. Relax and enjoy the amenities at your hotel, or explore more.

 

Day 14: Depart Yogyakarta
