This comprehensive tour visits three islands in Indonesia and features the most interesting cultural touring and scenic attractions in each place. Begin on the island of Java. Yogyakarta, a city renowned for traditional arts, culture and education. During city touring with your private guide and driver, visit the sultan’s palace, browse for traditional art and antiques at local galleries and boutiques, and explore fascinating Prambanan, a Hindu temple complex and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue to spectacular Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in the world and another impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site. With a private guide, tour Borobudur to learn about the history of the temple and its intricate stone carvings. Other touring options include hiking in the forested hills, biking to nearby villages, and a horse-pulled carriage ride to local villages.

 

Next, fly to Bali, a Hindu island best known for its traditional culture, friendly people, great beaches, and beautiful interior filled with terraced rice fields and jungle. Ubud, in Bali's interior. With your guide, tour the region according to your interests: perhaps tour the studios of noted artists and craftsmen; visit a local outdoor food market then have a cooking lesson at a village; visit the Monkey Forest, then explore Ubud’s most interesting museums and art galleries; tour local Balinese water palaces and important temples; attend local festivals; or enjoy whitewater rafting or mountain biking. During free time, enjoy Ubud’s many cafes and boutiques and take advantage of your resort’s spa and your resort pool.

 

Next, travel inland to Nusa Dua for few days beachside relaxation. Enjoy flexible touring with a private guide and driver, including temples such as Tanah Lot and Ulun Danu Temple, time to browse upscale boutiques in Seminyak, and other highlights such as a visit to a local turtle conservation center. One evening, attend a Kecak dance performance at the cliffside temple of Uluwatu Temple. There will also be ample time for you to enjoy the resort's spa, beach, water activities and fine dining.

 

Continue, travel to island of Lombok. With a private guide and driver, explore the interior of this fascinating island. Visit deeply traditional rural villages known for their crafts (including pottery, weavings and basketry), see lush terraced rice paddies and beautiful volcanoes and waterfalls. Also enjoy free time at the seaside resort, and optional water activities (including great snorkeling and diving).

Day 1: Welcome to Yogyakarta

Fly to Yogyakarta, INDONESIA

 

Welcome to Indonesia. Upon arrival in Yogyakarta Airport, obtain your Indonesia visa (please refer to your Special Program Note), and then clear Immigration and Customs.  After collecting your baggage, exit the airport to meet outside a local Guide of Global Travel & Tours. He/she will be holding a sign with your names on it. Please note that local guides are not allowed inside the airport.

 

From the airport, you will be privately transferred to your lovely boutique hotel. Yogyakarta is the most popular destination amongst tourists on Java, largely owing to its close proximity to the temples of Borobudur and Prambanan. The city is full of tradition with countless hotels, restaurants and entertainment to keep visitors occupied. Its relatively small size is easy to navigate on foot, or on a traditional becak that can be found in most areas. Yogyakarta has a great history with many heritage buildings and monuments still standing. One of the finest attractions remains the impressive Sultan’s palace a grand complex designed to reflect Javanese traditions. Settle in and enjoy the afternoon and evening at your leisure.

Day 2: Yogyakarta

Morning Yogyakarta city tour: This morning you will be taken on a tour to explore the cultural highlights of Yogyakarta. Start with a visit to the Kraton Sultan Palace walking over the remains of the past centuries, enabling you to understand the history of this artistic city. It was built in 1970 by Sri Sultan Hamengkubowono I., which is also a model of traditional Javanese palace architecture and it lies in the center of the municipality. Up to now, Kraton still serves as the Sultan Palace. Over 25,000 people live within the greater Kraton compound named Taman Sari, which consist of its own market, shops, batik, and silver cottage industries, schools, and mosques. You’ll also get to do a tour to the Water Castle. Afterwards, continue to Kota Gede which has been famed as the hub of Yogyakarta’s silver industry since the 1930’s. But this quite old town, which is now a suburb of Yogyakarta, was the first capital of the Mataram Kingdom, found by Panembahan Senopati in 1582. You will visit the busy silver workshops to watch the process.

 

Afternoon tour of Borobudur: This afternoon head north out of Yogyakarta for Borobudur, a journey of around 1.5 hours. Indonesia's largest and most impressive Buddhist monument, Borobudur. Looming out of a patchwork of bottle-green paddies and swaying palm tops, this colossal Buddhist relic is one of the continent's marvels. Built around 800 A.D. after the decline of Buddhism and the shift of power to East Java, the monument was abandoned soon after its completion. For centuries the complex lay forgotten, buried under layers of volcanic ash. Climb up to the top and enjoy a wonderful view on the Menoreh mountains. Enough time is given to stroll around the complex and to discover its beauty. Afterwards, continue to visit the nearby temples such as Pawon and Mendut Temple. 

 

Day 3: Yogyakarta – Denpasar (Bali) – Ubud (Bali)

Morning tour of Prambanan: This morning you will be taken on a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Prambanan Temple. The Hindu temple complex was erected in the 9th century while Java was ruled by the Hindu Sanjayas Old Mataram in the north. The complex consists of 3 major temples/shrines such as Candi Shiva Mahadeva, Candi Brahma, and Candi Vishnu. Enough time will be given to walk around and observe the beautiful carvings and the neighborhood shrines such as the Candi Palosan and the Candi Sewu. The Ramayana story is carved into the walls of the temples. 

 

Later this afternoon, you will be transferred to the Yogyakarta airport in time for your flight to Bali.

Settled in the foothills of the volcanic mountains of northern Bali, Ubud provides a wonderful contrast to the lively and modern south coast of Bali. Surrounded by paddy fields and dramatic valleys, the old town is often considered to be the ‘cultural hub’ of the island. Particularly famous for its markets, temples, great selection of restaurants and its traditional Balinese architecture, Ubud town is a great place for private exploration. Particularly good for families and young couples wanting to be in the heart of the action.

Day 4: Ubud (Bali)

Full day private guide tour: Today, meet your personal guide and driver, and drive to Munduk village. Upon arrival, enjoy a beautiful trekking through coffee, cloves, cacao and other exotic tropical plantations around the village. Your guide will give you the insight to the mountain farming live and the importance of the plantations that once attracted the arrival of Europeans to the archipelago. Visit the lovely waterfall with its refreshing breezes. After short refreshment, it’s the time to leave Munduk village and drive to Jatiluwih. We are joining a pleasant walk to discover the beautiful terrace rice fields of Jatiluwih, a UNESCO world heritage site. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant nearby. Afterward continue visit the UNESCO Heritage listed, Taman Ayun temple, built in 1634 to serve as the Royal family temple of the Mengwi dynasty. The temple is a truly stunning piece of historic architecture, surrounded by a moat with multi–roofed meru shrines and intricately carved wooden gates. Finally, you will visit holiest temple of Batukaru temple, located on the southern slope of Batukaru Mountain. Amidst the pure mountain air and the scent of the wet soil, one could feel the energy of this special place.

 

Day 5: Ubud (Bali)

Full day private guide tour: Start the day with a visit to Kerta Gosa, or Hall of Justice, built in 18th century in Klungkung. It is beautifully laid out within a moat and provides an exquisite example of the Klungkung style of painting and architecture which can be seen in the ceiling murals. Continue through spectacular views of terraced rice fields to Besakih temple, located on the slope of Mount Agung, Bali's highest volcano. It's called Mother Temple of Bali as it houses ancestral shrines for all Hindu Balinese and a complex of nearly 24 temples. The next stop it will be Kintamani, where you can enjoy your lunch with a breathtaking view over the caldera lake, Danau Batur. After lunch, you’ll visit the famous Tirta Empul Holy Water Temple located in Tampaksiring. At this temple you can observe the Balinese bathing in series of holy water fountains. Driving down, arrive in the bottom of a lush green valley where the Gunung Kawi temple, Bali's largest ancient monument is located. It consists of 10 rock-cut shrine memorials standing 7 meters high in sheltered niches cut into the sheer cliff face. End the tour with a stop at Goa Gajah before returning to your hotel.

 

Day 6: Ubud (Bali) to Nusa Dua (Bali)

Road journey from Ubud to Nusa Dua: Today, you’ll be driven through small villages and incredible landscapes, stopping for pictures and with your guide who will explain the islands’ culture, flora and fauna. You’ll arrive at Beratan Lake, a volcanic lake that is surrounded by spectacular views. You can visit the famous Ulun Danu Temple which sits on a small island on the far shores of the lake. Next you’ll explore the colorful market of Candikuning before enjoying lunch at Bamboo Forest Restaurant, a fabulous restaurant located the middle of a tranquil rainforest on the slopes of Batukaru Mountain.

 

After lunch, you’ll visit Bali’s most famous sight, the sea temple of Tanah Lot. Located on a barren volcanic rock in the ocean, the temple is sometimes pounded by huge waves: a magical setting. Then transfer to your luxury resort. The exclusive gated enclave of Nusa Dua on the eastern point of Bukit Peninsula is the ideal place to enjoy a peaceful beach stay in the south of Bali. The beautiful beach is in the middle of a wide range of opulent hotels and private villas. Settle in and enjoy the afternoon and evening at your leisure.

Day 7: Nusa Dua (Bali)

Enjoy a sunset outing to the southwestern tip of Bali for a visit of the Uluwatu Temple, which is perched precipitous on top sheer cliffs that drop straight into the pounding surf, 250 feet above the sea. This is one of the temples in Bali built in the 11th century. Watch the spectacular sunset overlooking the Indian Ocean and enjoy the mystic atmosphere. Your evening will be lighted up with a dinner under the stars at one of Jimbaran Beach Restaurant.

 

Day 8: Nusa Dua (Bali)

Day 9: Nusa Dua (Bali) to Lombok

Road journey from Nusa Dua to Padang Bay: After breakfast this morning your guide and driver will meet you for the drive to the boat terminal at Padang Bay Harbor.

 

Gilicat journey from Bali to Lombok: Join the Gilicat speedboat for the 90 minute journey to north Lombok.

 

Private transfer to Senggigi: Upon arrival on Lombok you will be met by your guide and driver and transferred to your hotel in Senggigi, a journey of around 45 minutes.

 

Settle in and enjoy the afternoon and evening at your leisure.

Day 10:  Lombok

The highlight of this tour is the deserted island of Gili Nanggu, with its beautiful beaches and clear turquoise water. On the way you will have the opportunity to view the daily life of the local Sasak people. Visit the morning market at Kediri and stop at the village of Banyumulek to see the Sasak women producing earthenware pottery, as they have done for generations. Continue on to sacred Mt. Pengsong and the Hindu temple, which is inhabited by hundreds of holy monkeys. Sail from Lembar by a traditional motorized outrigger for the 30 minute trip to Gili Nanggu. When you arrive there will be time to relax and swim on this pristine island. Lunch will be provided.

 

Day 12:  Lombok

Today, you’ll visit the village of Tetebatu and Loyok, popularly known as a peaceful and tranquil village. You will do some soft trekking to the local forest inhabited by the wild black monkeys (pitu), mahogony trees, and clove plantations while enjoying the simple and natural way of life of the locals. You will also visit Lingsar temple, which symbolizes the harmony of Muslim and Hindu and Taman Narmada, a kingly garden which is also the replica of Lake Segara Anak in Mount Rinjani. Lunch will be provided along the way.

 

Day 13: Lombok to Denpasar (BALI)

Today enjoy time at leisure until you are transferred to the Lombok airport for short flight to Denpasar airport and connecting onward flight to your next destination. We wish you a safe and pleasant journey.
